“The new Green Bay-based ownership group of Wausau Electric Inc., of Wausau has quite the pedigree.”

“The new Green Bay-based ownership group of Wausau Electric Inc. of Wausau has quite a business pedigree.
Russ Styczynski is owner of SMT Machine & Tool in Howard. He and Doug Hagen, former chief financial officer of American Foods Group, bought W.C. Industrial Supply Co. of Menasha and renamed it SMT Manufacturing & Supply LLC in 2012. John Frey was CEO of Tosca Ltd. in Green Bay, and Bennie Dahlin has been involved with numerous companies, including Nichols Paper Co., Shapes Unlimited and Hi-Tech Plastics, all in Outagamie County.
Wausau Electric is an electrical component distribution company, with electric motors and drives being the biggest part of its business. The group bought the company from Chuck and Mary Cannistra of Wausau, who’ve decided to retire.
“I was fortunate to get involved with these guys. You don’t have to eat the whole pie yourself sometimes,” Styczynski said. “We complement each other.”
Wausau Electric is a good fit with SMT Machine and SMT Manufacturing & Supply, Styczynski said.
“It’s got to fit within the family of industries we have. They all have synergy,” he said. “We are not going to go buy a bar and restaurant.”
SMT Machine specializes in machining and assembly work for the paper, printing, construction, and food and beverage industries. It also does maintenance projects for foundries and manufactures components for the marine industry and government, which includes nuclear projects.
SMT Manufacturing & Supply provides full-service, close-tolerance contract machining of machine and tool components, and production machining. It is a distributor of bearings, belts and sprockets, and offers welding, sandblasting, painting and assembly.
Wausau Electric has a strong base of agricultural customers.
“Our plans are to increase the market base in paper, printing, corrugated, automotive and food and beverage industries,” Styczynski said.”
Wisconsin Business Brokers Cornerstone Business Services are proud to be a part of this merger.
